The church school superintendent and teachers undergird a strong teaching ministry.
A team approach helps teachers feel joined in ministry. An administration that discusses problems at the table rather than handing down pronouncements promotes better teamwork.
Find time for teacher's talk. Schedule time to time to sit down and talk with teachers
about their joys and challenges.
All talk sessions should be positive and energizing. Have teachers gather and answer questions, such as:
- What are the rewards of teaching?
- What are your challenges?
- How do you grow in faith?
- How can the church help you to be a better teacher?
- What would you like to tell others about teaching church school?
ACCESSING THE POWER OF PRAYER
Prayer is the mortar in a solid Christian education program. If prayer isn't part of your church school, it's easy to start.
A first step is to tape a prayer on the attendance sheet. Ask teachers to read it each Sunday before beginning.
The next step is to expand the number of those who pray for church school.
Recruit one or two prayer partners per class.
Anyone in church school or not can pray for children, youth, or adults.
Provide rosters of the people for whom to pray and give prayer partners the teachers' names.
What happens when you have prayer partners? The entire church school will take on a positive atmosphere, an energy that draws people to teach.
Prayer is like a fertilizer, unseen after application, but nurturing new growth and health.
A church can make Sunday school a shared effort. The task of Christian education is not so intimidating when teachers have a sense of common mission .
